FAQs - School Times 2025-2026

  • Actually, we are migrating away from BusRight to Transfinder in 2025-2026.  The new app will be called Stopfinder.  Invitations to download the Stopfinder app will be sent over the summer.

  • Information should be available by mid-July.

  • Several of our routes will change as we plan for additional student riders, based upon the projected population growth within our district.

  • Our strategy to create a safe environment on the bus has two (2) components: education and follow-through.  We want to be intentional in communicating what we expect from our students while riding the bus.  When students understand the rules, they can adapt to the environment and feel safe. The second component is follow-through.  We have increased the number of cameras on each bus so that when a student does act inappropriately, we can provide the bus video to the assistant principals to investigate.

  • Encourage your child to tell someone such as the bus driver, a teacher, the principal, a secretary, a coach, a parent/guardian or a friend.  For us to address the issue, we need to understand the circumstances causing their discomfort.

  • At the intermediate school, we’ve designated the small, southeastern parking lot next to the building as our bus drop-off / pick-up location for our students with special needs riding the bus.  This location is ADA compliant and provides quick access to enter the building.  Furthermore, intermediate students will be dropped off / picked up first, followed by high school students, then middle school students.

  • The decision will be made on a case-by-case basis by the bus driver.

  • We will be closely monitoring the implementation of the new schedule to identify areas of concern and make necessary adjustments.

  • “Split” routes were designed as a short-term solution and it worked for many years.  That being said, we are trying to implement a long-term strategy that includes creating new routes to accommodate the student ridership, as well as developing a marketing strategy to attract new bus drivers and bus aides to our team.

  • The committee discussed many factors affecting our district, including the earlier start time for students attending our elementary schools. Many years ago, MV flipped elementary and secondary schedules to optimize learning for our older students and younger students.

  • While we encourage everyone to arrive early, it depends on the school your child attends.  For example, the car rider line should remain the same at Mt. Comfort Elementary, McCordsville Elementary, and Mt. Vernon Middle School. The committee is in the process of developing car rider traffic flow schematics for Mt. Vernon High School, Mt. Vernon Intermediate School and the new Fortville Elementary School.  The traffic flow schematics will be presented to the Mt. Vernon School Board for approval.  Once approved, the information will be available to parents.

  • There are a variety of factors contributing to a bus running late.  For example, if the route we created is the root cause of the bus arriving late consistently, then we will adjust the route.  However, if the bus is running late due to inclement weather conditions, vehicular accidents, police/fire/EMS activity, etc., we do everything we can to adjust to the situation, including working closely with the administrators at each school to minimize the loss of instructional time.

  • The “Early Release Wednesday”  schedule will follow the same parameters as the 2024-2025 school year.

  • We consistently evaluate the student ridership on each of the routes to prevent overcrowding on the bus. MV does not have enough buses or drivers needed to create a third route to school.
