Our public schools welcome the involvement of all citizens. The board meetings provide an opportunity for members of the community and parents to speak meetings. If you wish to provide public comment on agenda items, please read our policy. For details, visit our Addressing the School Board page.
School Board meetings are typically held on the third Monday of each month and the public is encouraged to attend. Work sessions are also open for public observation while executive sessions are closed to the public. Both will be listed below at least 48 business hours before the meeting. Meetings are held at:

School Board Scholars & Wall of Fame
The “Academic Wall of Fame” was created in 1999 for the School Board of Trustees to provide permanent recognition for those who have earned our most coveted academic awards. The “Wall” preserves the district’s history of educational excellence while motivating future generations to work hard at learning.

Mr. Chad Gray is serving his first term for his first year on the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) School Board of Trustees. Gray works as the transportation director at Greenfield-Central Schools and was previously employed as a teacher in Richmond and the Indiana Department of Corrections. He has lived in Cumberland since 2005. He has four children, two of whom are MVHS graduates, and two are currently enrolled in MVCSC.
Gray attended the University of Indianapolis and graduated with a B.S. in math and math education. He also received his M.Ed. In Education Administration from the University of Cincinnati. In the past, he served on the search committee for an Mt. Vernon High School (MVHS) principal. He also volunteered in the MVHS athletic department for the swimming program as a timer/announcer and is currently volunteering to live stream the swimming meets.
As for Mr. Gray's goals during his tenure on the MVCSC School Board, he wishes to help Mt. Vernon continue to progress in a fiscally responsible way as the community grows. He would also like to see MVCSC continue to have highly effective curricular, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities.

Mrs. Shannon Walls is serving her third term on the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) School Board of Trustees. She has lived in McCordsville since 2004 and is a Sales Account Manager for Commercial Food Services, as well as a Co-Owner of Aqua Leak Solutions. She has an Associate Degree from the International Business College. She has raised two boys with her husband, Matt Walls: Zakary, who graduated from Ball State University in 2016, and Blake, who graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 2020.
Walls has been a long-time volunteer and advocate for MVCSC. She is a Founding and Emeritus Board Member of the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation and served as the Event Director for all fundraising events. She has also served on the Parent Teacher Organizations for McCordsville Elementary School, Mt. Vernon Middle School, and Mt. Vernon High School. Walls supports numerous organizations, including: Indiana School Nutrition Association, Women's Fund of Hancock County, Outlook Christian Church, Rebuilding the Wall Missions, and the Christian Missionary Fellowship.
In her School Board of Trustees position, Walls strives to focus on continuing to expand the high-quality student programming so all graduates are prepared to compete in an ever changing global society. She states, "My goal is to make sure we are providing opportunities for all students and enhance our vocational opportunities. A strong financial position will allow us to move forward quickly with the implementation of this type of programming."

Mrs. Kellie Freeman is serving her third term on the Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) School Board of Trustees. She lives in the southern portion of the MVCSC district in Greenfield. Freeman served as a Transition Coordinator and a Special Education Teacher for Carmel Clay Schools. She is raised her two children with her husband, Joe, who retired as an MVHS World Language Teacher in 2020. Her son Dylan graduated from IUPUI and now works as a MVMS teacher, and Tessa attended DePauw University.
Freeman has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Ball State University. She has volunteered on the Parent Teacher's Organizations at the Mt. Vernon Middle School and 8th Grade Academy. She also previously served as the President of the MVCSC Corporation Improvement Council.
During her tenure on the School Board of Trustees, Freeman's goals include expanding vocational opportunities for students and to be a voice for MVCSC teachers. She is passionate about supporting students and teachers, and stated, "I believe that our School Board needs to consider how our decisions affect students, teachers and the community. We need to ask questions and ensure that we are not moving too fast or slow in any one direction while understanding that what is best for the students should always come first."

Meghan Britt is fulfilling the remainder of Tony May's his term through 2024. A Fortville resident since 2017, Britt has been a resident of Hancock County for over two decades. Her husband, who serves as the girl's Mt. Vernon High School soccer coach, and her oldest daughter are both graduates of Mt. Vernon, while her other three children are currently enrolled in MV schools.
Professionally, Britt is on staff as an executive assistant at Realife Church. Her commitment to the community extends beyond her professional life. Britt served on the PTO at Mt Comfort Elementary and takes pride in being an Athletic Booster rep at the high school for the past six years.
Britt has set forth several goals in her position on the school board. She expressed, "A personal goal of mine is to embrace our school's rapid growth while preserving our small-town values and maintaining the strong sense of community that we all cherish. It is crucial to navigate these changes and advancements in education while safeguarding the unique qualities that make Mt. Vernon so special. I aim to ensure that our schools continue to be a source of pride, a close community, and a nurturing environment for everyone that calls Mt. Vernon home."
