Marching Marauders Advance to ISSMA State Finals for the First Time

Mt. Vernon High School’s Band of Marauders are making history! For the first time since competing in Open Class, the band has advanced to the Indiana State School Music Association State Finals Class B, earning a spot among Indiana’s top marching bands.
Throughout October and November, marching bands compete through multiple rounds of competitions, demonstrating their musical talent, precision, creativity and overall performance. Advancing to the state finals is a significant accomplishment that reflects the dedication, teamwork, and countless hours of preparation put in by Mt. Vernon’s student performers and directors.
The Marching Marauders will take the field at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, November 7, 2026, to compete against the state’s top bands for a chance to earn a state title. Performing at this level is an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their hard work on one of Indiana’s biggest stages.
This historic achievement highlights the commitment and perseverance of the Marching Marauders throughout the season. Congratulations to the students, directors, and everyone who has supported the band on this incredible milestone!
This achievement adds to the band’s growing prestige, following its historic appearance as the first Hancock County concert band to compete in the state finals, earning recognition as one of Indiana’s top 16 concert bands.
