All parents and community adults are invited to attend Mt. Vernon’s Cyber Safety: Connect & Protect event. This important digital safety presentation will provide critical information about online grooming and extortion, current safety trends in Hancock County, and practical tools to help protect children in today’s digital world.
The keynote speaker, Katie Molinder, Executive Director of Zoey’s Place Child Advocacy Center, will share insight into how online predators groom adolescents and exploit them through digital extortion. Zoey’s Place supports children and families during and after reports of child abuse, neglect, sexual assault, and other crimes against children.
Mt. Vernon High School Resource Officer Diane Graffitti will discuss legal implications and local safety trends specific to Hancock County. She will address the apps currently being used by youth and predators, as well as the real-world consequences of inappropriate online activity.
Seth Hamilton, Mt. Vernon’s Director of Technology, will provide guidance on how parents can proactively safeguard their children. He will share practical strategies, recommended monitoring tools, and information about free digital safety resources available through Mt. Vernon.
Following the event, speakers will be available at tables outside the auditorium to connect with attendees and answer individual questions. In addition, school counselors will also be present to provide support and resources for those who would like to speak further.
No registration is required. Due to the sensitive nature of the content, this event is intended for adults only.
